KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists should pay up their summonses early to avoid paying the maximum amount, said Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement director SAC Datuk Mahamad Akhir Darus.
He said the police recently introduced a concept where people pay more if they pay their summonses later.
"For example, the maximum compound for a speeding offence is RM 300, but if you pay within 30 days you only pay RM150. This means you automatically pay 50% of the maximum compound depending on when you settle your summonses," said Mahamad.
Mahamad added in a press statement on Wednesday that those who pay within the next 30 days will pay RM200, and said that those who pay two months after the summons is issued will have to pay the full RM300.He advised motorists to settle their summonses at the various district traffic police counters, post offices, Maybank ATM's or through www.myeg.com.my and www.rilex.com.my.
Mahamad also urged motorists to not trust or have dealings with any individuals claiming to offer discounts of up to 80%.
"We are only offering the maximum discount of 50% automatically and it is with the hope that offenders settle their summonses according to the schedule," said Mahamad.
