How the IPCMC should work

According to research by Center For A Better Tomorrow (Cenbet), over half of Malaysians don’t believe the police is trustworthy.

A pool of 1000 Malaysians scored police trustworthiness out of five, with 55% giving scores of three and below.

This, say experts, is why the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) needs to be implemented as soon as possible.

“When (police) abuse of power is left unchecked, the public will lose confidence in the rule of law - they will feel like there’s a lack of safety, and that could end up with us being a failed state,” said ASLI Centre for Public Policy Studies chairman Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam.
