EAIC serah Peguam Negara hasil siasatan kes lompat pagar SPRM

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan has been appointed as the new chairman of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) for a three-year period effective July 1.

He takes over from Datuk A Aziz A Rahim.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement today said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had consented to the appointment.

Previously, Sidek spent 38 years in the civil service and retired as the 12th chief secretary to the government on June 23, 2012.

The PMO said the King had also consented to the appointment of Tan Sri Datuk Zainun Ali as deputy chairman, along with Datuk John Louis O'hara and Prof Dr Nik Ahmad Kamal Nik Mahmod as EAIC members.

Zainun was a former Federal Court judge who had held various positions in the legal and judicial service, while O'hara was a retired High Court judge.

Nik Ahmad Kamal was the International Islamic University legal adviser and law lecturer.

The PMO said the new appointments would further strengthen the functions of the EAIC and its effectiveness towards ensuring quality, integrity, and effective enforcement among officers and agencies.

"The government also expresses its appreciation to the previous EAIC members namely Aziz, Datuk Sabariah Hassan, Assoc Prof Dr Abang Ekhsan Abang Othman, Lee Sow Siong, Leong May Chan, and James Deva Nayagam Gnanaratnam."

The EAIC is a federal statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, under Section 3 of the EAIC Act 2009, which was gazetted on Sept 3, 2009.
