Besut cops on lookout for suspected trafficker who dropped bag containing drugs worth RM5500

BESUT: Police here are looking for a suspected trafficker who, in his haste to evade policemen chasing him on a motorcycle, dropped a bag containing about RM5,500 of stimulant pills.

The man managed to evade arrest but the police team recovered his black sling bag containing 550 pills following the 11.30am incident on Sunday.

Earlier, a police team on an operation codenamed Op Tapis had approached the man near an oil palm plantation near Kampung Tok Dor in Jertih.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Rowi said the man immediately gunned his motorcycle, prompting a chase through the plantation.

The man appeared to know his way round the area as, according to Zamri, he took several “shortcut routes” and managed to escape the chasing police team.

“We are now looking for the suspect who was riding a Yamaha 125Z motorcycle,” he said today.

Zamri said the drugs inside the bag were placed in three plastic packs, with the first containing 200 pills, the second filled with another 200 pills and the third pack contained 150 pills.

“We did not find any identification or cash inside the bag. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (for trafficking),” he said.

Zamri said the man’s motorcycle did not have registration plates, adding that police believe he is still hiding in the Besut area.
