Liew Deadline to table recommendations for IPCMC Bill extended to Wednesday Nov 27

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat has approved a motion to extend the deadline for the Parliamentary Special Select Committee to table its recommendations on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) Bill to Wednesday (Nov 27).

The committee was supposed to have tabled their recommendation by Monday (Nov 25), said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong (pic).

Liew, who tabled the motion, said the deadline would be extended to allow the committee to scrutinise the Bill and issues raised by the public in a more detailed manner.

The IPCMC Bill was referred to the committee on Oct 7 after its second reading.

The decision to refer the IPCMC Bill to the committee was to allow for improvements to the proposed law.

The Bill had been debated by 30 members of Parliament from both sides of the political divide with no vote taken before it was referred to the committee.

The IPCMC was tabled and will replace the Enforcement Integrity Agency Commission (EIAC), which was set up to look into complaints against enforcement agencies including the police.
