IPOH: A drama unfolded at the Sessions Court here today when a 55-year-old man withdrew bail granted to his son.

The father, V. Maria Dass rushed to the front of the court when Judge S. Indira Nehru, set the bail of RM3,000 on his son.

His 26-year-old son, N. Herry Dass was charged on June 20 with gang robbery under Section 395 of the Penal Code.

Herry, upon hearing that his father had withdrew the bail broke out in tears out and asked for his father's forgiveness.

When the judge questioned the father why he refused to pay the bail, Maria Dass said his son was rarely at home and never listened to his advice.

The court then stood down for about 10 minutes to allow for a "father-and-son" discussion.

After the proceeding resumed, Maria Dass was adamant with his decision and asked the court to withdraw the bail on his son.

Herry broke down again. He rushed towards Maria Dass and touched the man's feet. However, his father refused to forgive him.

Indira Nehru then granted the application to withdraw the bail on the accused and told Maria Dass that the decision would remain.

Maria Dass said this was not the first time that his son was charged with gang robbery and that he had spent more than RM20,000 to pay the fines.

"He has been doing these activities for about three or four times. I had to borrow my friend's money to pay the fines." said Maria Dass, who works as a petty trader at Kuala Pari Wholesale Market.
