KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has agreed in principal to the establishment of a standing committee to ensure more effective integrity management and governance by all enforcement agencies.

EAIC chairman Datuk A. Aziz A. Rahim said the committee will be spearheaded by the commission itself with participation from all the directors or heads of the integrity units of the various government enforcement agencies.

"Through the establishment of the committee, a more effective regular discussion can be held with all the enforcement agencies touching on topics of integrity management and governance of the various government enforcement departments and agencies.

"The cooperation from the committee will also allow us to formulate some holistic solutions to improve our services," he said prior to officiating the commission's latest campaign, 'Report! Enforcement Misconduct' today.

A. Aziz added that the proposal would be forwarded to the government for consideration at the latest by year end.

Also present at the campaign launch was Malaysia Crime-Prevention Foundation senior vice-chairman, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, who proposed that enforcement units under local authorities should be part of the long list of enforcement agencies currently under EAIC.

Lee said this is because of the many complaints lodged against local enforcement agencies nationwide.

"I hope that this will be eventually realised, but it requires in-depth consideration as local authorities fall under the purview of the respective state governments.

"The commission only handles agencies under federal law, so if it is to handle local authorities there will have to be legal amendments before that can happen," he added.
