Perak police chief 86 cops in state linked to crime and misconduct last year

LUMUT: A total of 86 policemen were linked to criminal activities and instances of misconduct last year, says Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan (pic).

Of the 86, five were investigated for drug-related offences while 26 others tested positive for drugs.

Hasnan added that 33 others were investigated for criminal offences, seven for syariah-related offences and the rest for corruption.

"Even though the number is only 1% of the total police force in Perak, it cannot be viewed lightly. We must play a more responsible role by taking early steps on any misconduct," he said.

Hasnan said this at the monthly gathering of the Perak police contingent and a conferment-of-rank ceremony at the Manjung police headquarters here Friday (Feb 23).

The event saw 105 police personnel promoted to the rank of sub-inspector, sergeant-major and sergeant.

Hasnan also reminded policemen not to be involved in gangsterism, which could eventually lead to moral decay. – Bernama
